Research Line Methodological Research and Machine Learning

The IPN’s Methodology and Machine Learning research strand engages with methodological challenges in the collection and evaluation of datasets in education research, specifically where it relates to psychology and the teaching of specific subjects. Our work attempts, for example, to establish robust ways of ascertaining learners’ level of knowledge in a particular subject and create precise statistical models for learning trajectories and the factors that may influence them (instruction received in the classroom, feedback). The use of digital resources in education, including learners’ engagement with digital learning environments, can often generate large volumes of data, in whose management machine learning methods are increasingly coming to the fore.
