Berlin’s School System successfully established

15. March 2017

Researchers, including the IPN’s Olaf Köller, studied the effects of Berlin’s school system reform and drew an interim conclusion: The conversion to a system of only two secondary schools (Gymnasium and Integrierte Sekundarschule) proved to be a smooth transition and a step towards a long-term sustainable structure.

The number of schools with a high percentage of students facing multiple disadvantages was reduced, while the achievements of all students in the new integrated form remained overall the same.

The reform process now needs to continue while being constantly improved – the present study offers numerous suggestions.
