New: the magazine "Ich bin Meta" – public screening today, 6:00 p.m.

April 12, 2018

The science outreach magazine "Ich bin Meta" has been published.
Presentation on April 12th, 2018 as part of the "Digital Meta" event at the Center for Molecular Biosciences (ZMB) at Kiel University (CAU) in Kiel, 6:00 p.m.

In cooperation with schools in Schleswig-Holstein, the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) and the Leibniz Science Campus KiSOC at the IPN have developed the magazine "Ich bin Meta". Scientists from CAU's Collaborative Research Center 1182 "Origin and Functioning of Metaorganisms" contributed to the magazine.

The magazine is aimed at young people, teachers and school classes. Selected work and research results of SFB 1182, in which everything revolves around biological communities of microorganisms and host organisms, are thereby made accessible to a broad public. The magazine is available free online as a pdf-file and also in print version (in limited edition).

The IPN is breaking new ground with the format of the magazine. This is the first time that scientific articles have been reviewed by school classes in a target group review process. The students also conducted interviews with scientists. Further information on SFB 1182 and its research is also provided. This gives students the opportunity to gather authentic experience on a current research topic and learn to understand how science works.

Tonight's event will also feature an interactive multimedia exhibition object created at the SFB. It can also be used to convey complex research content in a graphic way.

SFB 1182: From protozoa to humans, all animals and plants are populated by microorganisms. Unicellular or multicellular host organisms and microorganisms connected to them form the so-called meta-organism. This co-existence of small-cell organisms and their host organisms is the focus of the Collaborative Research Center, which is investigating how meta-organisms arise and function.
