Record Number of Competitors for First Round of Student Olympiads

31. October 2016

The first round of the German selection competitions for the Science Olympiad IBO (International Biology Olympiad), IChO (International Chemistry Olympiad) and IPhO (International Physics Olympiad) has concluded with a record number of participants. Almost Nationwide, 4000 students took on the challenge of solving the demanding tasks which were part of the three competitions. In comparison to the previous year’s participant numbers, this relates to an increase of 27%.

More participants also means more competition, and naturally we will be curious to see who will continue on to represent Germany internationally as part of the national team at the end of the competition year.

Besides the three previously mentioned Olympiads, the IPN also organizes three other science competitions. These are the IJSO (International Junior Science Olympiad, EUSO (The European Science Olympiad) as well as the BUW (National Environmental Competition).

The competitions appeal to students throughout their school time, from the start of secondary level to the end of their school careers. Additionally, these competitions offer the possibility of a sustainable promotion of scientific abilities and interests.
