Who becomes a teacher?

30th March 2015: A study on the characteristics of prospective teachers refutes prevalent prejudices

A study from the Leibniz Institue for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) and the University of Tübingen now refutes the popular preconception that students in teacher training programmes have only mediocre school leaving certificates. This study demonstrates that students commencing teacher training programmes have equally good prior knowledge as students commencing other degree programmes.

The study is published: Roloff Henoch, J., Klusmann, U., Lüdtke, O., & Trautwein, U. (2015). Who Becomes a Teacher? Challenging the “Negative Selection” Hypothesis. Learning and Instruction, 36, 46-56.
