STEM Young Talent Barometer 2019: There is a need for action in STEM education

June 12th, 2019

The 2019 STEM Young Talent Barometer will be released today. It shows a great need for action in all stages of STEM education. The STEM Barometer for Young Scientists is published regularly by acatech - Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften and the Körber Foundation. It is co-authored by Prof. Dr. Olaf Köller and Prof. Dr. Mirjam Steffensky, both from the IPN - Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education.

There is still a significant shortage of STEM specialists, both in training occupations and in academia, especially in the STEM teaching/training function. The 2019 STEM Barometer for Young Scientists shows what steps must be taken in the education system to improve the quality of STEM education in order to attract more young people to STEM topics and professions.
