Birke Weber receives this year's IPN Award for outstanding empirical theses in the field of science and mathematics education.
Prof. Dr. Olaf Köller, Managing Scientific Director of the IPN, congratulates this year's award winner Birke Weber.
Birke Weber was awarded this year's IPN Prize for outstanding empirical theses for her master's thesis in the field of mathematics education. In her thesis she dealt with tasks in mathematics studies. She was supervised by Prof. Dr. Anke Lindmeier. The award is combined with a non-cash prize and the opportunity to publish the results of her Master's thesis in the IPN Journal.
In her work, Ms. Weber carried out a qualitative analysis of characteristics of exercises in mathematics studies. Her focus was on exercises used in teacher training in mathematics. The prize commission especially emphasizes that Ms. Weber derives her research questions from the analysis of the current state of research in both psychological and mathematics education research for the introductory phase of studies and thus thoroughly formulates interesting and relevant findings. Her methodical approach is praised as exemplary.
