Coronavirus pandemic: National Academy Leopoldina presents new statement with regard to autumn and winter
Coronavirus pandemic: In its 6th ad hoc opinion, the National Academy Leopoldina recommends establishing effective rules for autumn and winter
In the 6th ad hoc statement on the coronavirus pandemic published today, the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina recommends that those responsible at federal and state level immediately agree on binding, effective and uniform rules for the implementation of precautionary measures and consistently enforce them.
The challenge of keeping the pandemic under control in the coming months is becoming greater: in autumn and winter, as outside temperatures fall, group activities are shifted to indoor areas, there are two vacation periods with autumn and winter vacations and thus vacation trips, and more social activities in the Advent and Christmas season.
The goal of all precautionary measures should be to maintain public life and the economy. Economic, social and psychological consequences as well as consequences for the health system should be clarified and weighed in all upcoming political decisions.
In this context, the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina recommends
- 1. consistently adhering to protective measures
- 2. fast and targeted testing
- 3. shorten quarantine and isolation times
- 4. facilitate responsible behavior
- 5. mitigate social and psychological consequences
