DiASper Spring Camp 2022: Students explore 3D printing technology between school and the working world
The Spring Camp of the DiASper(Digital Working World from a School Perspective) project took place at the IPN Kiel from April 4th - 6th. Eleven teenagers used the first week of the Easter holidays to get an overview of 3D printing technology and to learn about the 3D printing process from software-supported modeling to the printing of the self-designed objects. The program also included insights into the applications of 3D printing in industry and crafts as well as mathematical tasks associated with modeling three-dimensional objects. A short online lecture on robotics by the project partner from the Maersk McKinney Møller Institute at Syddansk University in Odense and a video created especially for the event on the use of 3D printing in a regional industrial company opened up further perspectives for the young people and rounded off the workshop.
The DiASper project at the IPN Kiel in cooperation with Syddansk University in Odense (DK), which is funded by the EU Interreg Program 5a, combines the content of school mathematics and technology lessons for lower and upper secondary schools with the use of digital media as they occur in the modern world of work in industry and trade. "At the IPN, we are developing concepts for regular mathematics lessons that tie in with existing learning content in schools. These are linked to applications of 3D printing, which is exemplary for digital-based production methods, e-Manufacturing," is how project team member Mira H. Wulff describes the procedure. Parts of the developed concepts provided the content of the Spring Camp, where the young people aged 11 to 13 learned the most important steps of 3D printing technology as well as how to apply mathematics in the design of three-dimensional objects.
