Environmental and Health Education as the Focus of International Educational Sciences: August 19th - 21st, 2018 in Kiel

August 16th, 2018

Interim conference of ESERA Special Interest Group 4
'Science | Environment | Health' - Maritim Hotel in Kiel, August 19th - 21st, 2018

School garden, healthy nutrition, biomedicine or antimicrobial resistance: These are some of the topics that will be the focus of international educational researchers coming to Kiel over the next few days. From August 19th – 21st, 2018, the IPN will host the interim conference of the ESERA Special Interest Group 4 'Science | Environment | Health'. The conference will take place in the Maritim Hotel.

So-called special interest groups on various research topics have been formed within the European Science Education Research Association, ESERA for short. The Special Interest Group 4 | Science | Environment | Health' is still relatively young.

The IPN-organized working meeting of the group is only the second, after a very successful start in Weggis, Switzerland, in 2016, organized by one of the two speakers of the group, Prof. Dr. Albert Zeyer, who teaches as a professor of medicine at the University of Applied Sciences in Bern.

The three days in Kiel will focus on environmental and health education in an international context. The speakers come from Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey and the United States of America. Among them the co-speaker of SIG, Dr. Alla Keselman, who will travel from the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland to Kiel for the meeting.

Organizer Prof. Dr. Kerstin Kremer (IPN) is pleased that so many proven experts are finding their way to Kiel: "The conference program is varied and promises an up-to-date overview of relevant issues in education for sustainable development and health education. A special concern of the group is to make it clear that scientific knowledge is essential as a basis for understanding this important educational task. This awareness has gone missing in some conceptions. The SIG wants to explore the importance and the interfaces of scientific knowledge for action and awareness in the field of health and sustainability, hence the three-part title 'Science | Environment | Health'.

ESERA is the most important scientific association in the field of scientific didactic research in Europe. It promotes cooperation in science education research between European countries.

Journalists are cordially invited to participate in the conference.
