Final round of the International Chemistry Olympiad in Kiel

The final round of the International Chemistry Olympiad will take place at the IPN from the May 14th - 21st, 2019. Two girls and 13 boys will compete for a spot in the national team of four, which will represent Germany in the international competition in Paris from July 21st - 30th, 2019.

The 15 best chemistry students in Germany have come to Kiel for the one-week final round of the Chemistry Olympiad in Germany. They will face various exams including tricky theoretical and experimental tasks from all areas of chemistry at the IPN. The 15 young participants qualified in a three-stage selection process from a total of 1466 participants. The final round will decide which of them will represent Germany at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Paris this summer.

During a festive award ceremony on May 21st, 2019, Mayor Renate Treutel and Prof. Dr. Thisbe K. Lindhorst, President of the Society of German Chemists and Professor at the Otto Diels Institute for Organic Chemistry at Kiel University, will honor those who have made it into the national team.

About the Chemistry Olympiad selection competition in Germany:
The annual selection competition for the International Chemistry Olympiad runs over four rounds and is carried out in Germany by the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) in Kiel on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and in cooperation with the Länder Ministries of Education and Cultural Affairs. The Förderverein Chemieolympiade, founded by former participants, supports the competition by organizing supporting events and supporting the participants during the selection process.
