In its 7th ad hoc statement on the Covid 19 pandemic, the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina recommends a hard lockdown over the holidays and beginning of the New Year in order to reduce the number of daily new infections: current developments in the coronavirus pandemic give cause for great concern.
Regardless of the prospect of an early start of the vaccination campaign, from a scientific point of view it is absolutely necessary to quickly and drastically reduce the still clearly excessive number of new infections by means of a hard lockdown, according to the group of authors of the Leopoldina statement, whose members include Prof. Dr. Olaf Köller, Managing Scientific Director of the IPN.
