Schleswig-Holstein project "Mathe macht stark" now also in Rhineland-Palatinate

Pädagogisches Landesinstitut Rheinland-Pfalz takes over Schleswig-Holstein's diagnostic and support programs for the prevention of arithmetic problems in elementary schools.
The "Mathe macht stark-Grundschule" fostering initiative was developed by the Institute for Quality Development at Schools in Schleswig-Holstein (IQSH) and scientifically supported by the Mathematics Education Department of the IPN. A particular focus of the latter was the impact assessment, which showed a clear fostering effect. The program allows identifying learning difficulties in mathematics as early as the elementary level and preventing possible arithmetic problems early on.
Beginning on this year’s first day of school in Rhineland-Palatinate, 52 primary schools in the federal state are taking part in "Mathe macht stark-Grundschule". Prof. Dr. Aiso Heinze, Director of the Department of Mathematics Education at the IPN, gave an opening presentation at the opening event of the program on August 7th in Speyer. In her welcoming speech, Dr. Stefanie Hubig, Minister for Education of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, referred to the "constantly changing challenges" in the first years of schooling and stressed: "In order to provide teachers with professional and pedagogical support, we are now offering a new program to individually foster students with Mathe macht stark.
