Spotlight on sustainability: The IPN launches its Mobility Weeks

September 8th, 2022

The Mobility Weeks 2022 at the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) started on Monday after a pandemic-related break, during which the usual activities were only possible to a limited extent. The initiative was launched by the IPN working group KliN for "Climate Protection and Sustainability". The goal is to draw attention to the necessity of integrating the two socially relevant topics of climate protection and sustainability in everyday life.

From September 5th – 23rd, 2022, the KliN working group will offer numerous activities for employees of the institute. These include, for example, test driving e-bikes, a colloquium on the topic of sustainable nutrition, an environmental café, and a step challenge in which participants compare the steps they have taken during the campaign period. In addition, interested employees can get together during active breaks with exercise activities or walks in the nearby botanical garden.

All of these activities are designed to establish a common culture of sustainability at the IPN among all employees. The extent to which this culture has already progressed regarding mobility is illustrated by a video created as part of the run-up to the Mobility Weeks, which shows how IPN employees get to work in a sustainable manner. The video also served as the starting point for a Twitter campaign under the hashtag #ForschungFährtNachhaltig, in which other research institutes from all over Germany are also participating.
