The Umbrella Organization for the International Biology Olympiad Launches a new Website

December 12th, 2019

Over the years, international competitions for students have become increasingly popular. This is reflected in the steadily growing number of participating countries. Originally founded by six countries, more than 70 nations now take part in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO). Accordingly, the demands on administrative structures required for the competition are steadily increasing. Existing structures, often informal, could expand over the years with the help of of very committed individuals - today these structures are pushed to their limits. In 2016, the IBO Office was set up to professionalize the International Biology Olympiad. It is located at the IPN.

The International Biology Olympiad has now taken a further step to professionalize the competition: The new website, the outward appearance and the working platform of the Olympiad are now online:

www.ibo-info.org

The website serves several purposes: In future, it will not only provide up-to-date information on the international competition and the member countries, but will also support fundraising, facilitate member support, professionalize content management and help with registration procedures for the annual competitions.

The IBO Office, acting as an umbrella organization, not only represents the interests of all member states, but also works on structural and content development of the international competition, as well as coordination of research projects within the participating countries. In the affiliated research project IBOint, for example, the IPN investigates the effects of the international level of competition on the participants.
